Why The Company Was Named Perikles Publishing
Perikles Publishing, Inc. was originally formed as an extension of
Odyssey Creations, Inc. (co-founded by my brother, Timm, and myself
in 1992). Odyssey Creations, Inc. was a fine art company featuring
Timm’s original works. Whereas, Odyssey’s icon was Athena (Greek
Goddess of the Arts), who now follows the new company, Perikles
(recognized for his love and promotion of literature) was selected
as the icon of the publishing company.
Perikles was a great democratic leader who rose to prominence
between 451-429 B.C. He restored the glory to Athens after it was
devastated during the Persian Wars. Perikles was also considered to
be the genius behind an extensive building program (440’s-420’s)
conducted in Athens that included the Acropolis temples—the most
notable of these temples is the Parthenon—built in honor of Athena.
Also during his leadership, extraordinary sculptures and
architecture blossomed as well as the advent of Greek dramas and
philosophical teachings.
As Timm and I continue to write our individual stories, our
presentation always reflected a Greek theme to some degree, while
maintaining its interrelationship. From the creation of the two
companies to the creation of our artwork, each has contributed an
important page to our collective story.
Perikles Publishing’s slogan reads “ . . .through Art and
Literature”, which appears on letterhead, invoices, etc. After
combining Odyssey’s and Perikles’ slogans, the extended slogan once
read, ‘The journey continues through Art and Literature’, combining
the passions of two brothers while symbolizing the journey through
life and accentuating the intangibles discovered during the journey.
Although Odyssey Creations, Inc. no longer exists in a material
sense, the philosophy we believe has risen above, and the
intangibles will always prove stronger than the tangibles. The
journey continues for both of us as Timm and I have chosen to return
to our individual paths for the time being. Thus, Timm will continue
with his artwork and I will continue with the evolution of the
Dropas.

Mission
The mission of Perikles Publishing, Inc. is to
provide people of all ages with enjoyable artistic creations (i.e.,
art, literature, music, etc.); sharing with them everyday life
experiences and appreciation for what is around them.
Although the mission is unchanged from the company’s inception, the
primary focus now is on the evolution of the Dropas and the goodness
they represent.

Owner – Scott R. Etters
I was born in Elgin, Illinois during the spring
of 1963, and grew up in Cary until I graduated from college in 1985.
I now make my home in the far west suburbs of Chicago. My childhood
dream of becoming a professional baseball player came to an end as a
freshman in college. It was time to move on to the next dream, one
of owning a business. After working for more than six years
developing software, researching areas of Artificial Intelligence,
and acquiring an M.B.A., I moved back to the Chicago suburbs where I
would soon realize another dream, co-founding Odyssey Creations,
Inc. and later, Perikles Publishing, Inc. My diverse background,
although seemingly having little to do with providing stories for
the masses, has led me to a newfound passion in life—writing. After
the first book was released, I developed a variety of Author
Programs for children. Once I was in the classroom, I discovered
that I was meant to be there in a more profound manner. So, back to
college I went where I acquired a Master’s Degree in Elementary
Education. I now teach fifth grade.
Although my brother, Timm, no longer plays a role in Perikles
Publishing, Inc., he certainly played a significant part in its
initial stages. His work was part of the inspiration for the
conception of the Dropas, as well as the stories. Our paths have
once again diverged, but we both share our love of the arts and our
positive outlook on life with those around us, but primarily with
children. Timm’s work can be seen in well over a hundred schools in
the Chicago suburbs, and actually comes alive in the stories I have
written.
